What a great turn out today at Rec C’s Reading workshop. 25 children and their parents met with Miss Kaur and Mrs Travers to find out how the children are taught reading and  writing when they are in class and how they use the Reception tool kit to help the children achieve their writing targets. Parents were given really useful packs of information to help them support their child at home.

Read what some of the parents wrote about what they found the most interesting at today’s workshop.

“They way children are taught to write sentences using full stops, finger spaces, capital letters”.

“How the children understood writing sentences using blending words and punctuation”.

“It was a great way to interact with your child’s class teacher.”

“My child’s enthusiasm in class workshop and also the correct way my child is taught how to write sentences. Also that speech marks are used.”

Great comments today.

Thank you Miss Kaur and Mrs Travers for todays really fun and useful workshop.

An amazing turnout today from the children in Rec B and their families at today’s reading workshop. The room was full and buzzing as 26 excited children worked alongside a family member.

The parents were very busy learning along their child. They read a book together before drawing a picture and writing a sentence. Mrs Robinson explained the toolkit used in class to support and develop the children’s writing.

Here are some of the comments about  what the parents  found interesting at today’s workshop.

“How they  use the writing target to check they have done everything right.”

” Learning about what to discuss with my child when reading- the Q’s to ask.”

“How the children had a very good understanding of punctuation at quite a very young age.”

“The planned activity really well organised and useful. Also the pack is excellent.”

The children returned to the classroom for their fruit and water very excited and full of what they had been doing.

” We got to read books – all the children and the parents.” Ali

Maisy said, ” We wrote a sentence about Kipper and Chip. Our mums helped us and we get to take the work home.

“I coloured in a picture of Fluffy – he was looking at his reflection in the water.” Oliver

Rafa said,  “We were reading a book to our mummies and daddies. I written a sentence and I drawed a picture.”

What fab responses from both parents and children about today’s workshop!

Thank you Mrs Robinson and Miss Nawaz for a great time this morning.

Next week is the last week for Reception INSPiRE workshop. Look out for Rec C’s post.

Reading workshop with Rec A –  our 1st workshop of the Summer term!

Thank you to all the parents in Rec A who came to today’s workshop to find out how they could support their child’s reading and writing at home. Mrs Grant gave everyone a very useful pack of information regarding phonics and a copy of the EYFS profile. Parents will also be given a copy of the Reception Writing Targets- the tool kit used in class to help support and develop the children’s writing.

Enjoy looking at the photos below showing how engaged the children were working alongside a family member in school today.

Read some of the comments written by the parents about what they found the most useful  from attending today’s session.

“Finding out about the reception writing targets and working alongside my granddaughter in the classroom environment.”

“How you can get so much out of the book than just reading to your child.”

“How quickly children start learning and writing and try themselfs. Good new ideas to learn today.”

“I like that my child try to write the sentence and follow the toolkit.”

Some of the resources given to the parents in their pack.

The children were so excited to talk about the fab time they had had with a special family member.

Kyaira said, “I like reading my books with my mum – we were saying the letters inside them.”

Adam said, ” I read a book with my dad about Chip and Floppy. Floppy  was running, Chip was helping his dad put the tent up.”

Akshita said, ” I read the book with my mum- it was about painting a loft. I did writing about the family goes camping.”

Samee said, “I was writing some sentences about Floppy- he was hungry and the mum bought some dog food.

A BIG Thank you to Mrs Grant and Mrs Chandegra for today’s fab workshop.

Next week join Mrs Robinson and Miss Nawaz for Reception B’s workshop.

20 lucky parents and their Year 1 children came into school to share in a Phonics workshop with Mrs O’Connor and Mrs Roden. A pack of games and instructions were given to each family and together everyone had great fun exploring how to play them. The children very proudly showed their parents how confident they were at playing the games as they had played them before in the Phonics Pad.

It was a fab morning of fun and learning together.
